Spaying and neutering your pet is extremely important in controlling unwanted pet populations. Pet overpopulation is a serious problem in Ontario. Hundreds of healthy cats and dogs are euthanized (put down) each year because there are not enough homes for them. Preventing your animal from reproducing has many behavioural and health benefits. Spaying a female animal at a young age, helps prevent mammary cancer. Neutering a male dog at a young age helps prevent instances of prostatic disease. The procedures eliminate or help to reduce negative behavioural characteristics such as territorial marking, aggression and destructiveness.
